01 / Overview
Rice reaches a powder unit with dust, husk bits and bran powder clinging to it. If that goes to the mill, it ends up in the puttu podi or appam flour. The Rice Washing machine cleans the grain first.
Rice and water go into a stainless bowl. A motor on top turns a stirrer that churns the grain, so dust and light impurities lift off and leave with the overflow and drain water. Water pipework feeds the bowl, and the washed rice is let out through the bottom for soaking or draining.
It is the first machine in a rice powder line, ahead of the pulveriser, or ahead of the Rice Steaming machine where steamed powder is made. We make batch type washers as well as in-line ones, depending on capacity. Sizes run from 25KG to 600KG. Stones need a separate de-stoner.
02 / Construction & use
Features
- Stainless bowl on a tall frame holds the rice and wash water together.
- Motor-driven stirrer churns the grain so dust and light impurities float free.
- Water pipework feeds the bowl and carries the dirty overflow away.
- Bottom outlet lets washed rice out for soaking or draining.
- Batch washing in the bowl, with in-line cleaning available for larger capacities.
Used to make
- Raw and boiled rice washed for puttu podi
- Rice for appam and idiyappam flour
- Rice for pathiri podi
- Pulses and grains cleaned before processing
- Rice washed ahead of idli and dosa batter
03 / Choosing
- Rice Steaming
These are steps in sequence, not alternatives. Rice Washing cleans raw rice and comes first. Rice Steaming then cooks the washed grain with live steam, and is needed only in lines that make steamed powders.
04 / Questions
Does the Rice Washing machine remove stones from rice?
No. It washes off dust, bran powder and light impurities. Stones are taken out by a separate de-stoner with aspirator, which we also make and which sits ahead of the washer in the line, so stones never reach the bowl.
Does the Rice Washing machine work in batches or in line?
We make batch type machines and in-line ones, depending on capacity and raw material. The bowl washer here runs from 25KG to 600KG, and larger volumes call for an in-line arrangement fed by a conveyor or elevator in your plant.
Why wash rice by machine before making puttu podi?
Machine washing takes less labour than washing by hand, cleans each lot the same way and means less handling. That keeps dust and husk out of the powder and gives the mill clean, drained rice to work with.
