01 / Overview
Steamed rice powder is made from rice that has been cooked before it is dried and milled. The Rice Steaming machine does that cooking step in bulk, so the grain does not have to be steamed in small lots by hand.
It is a horizontal stainless drum with a hinged lid, mounted on a tilting stand and turned by a motor and gearbox. Steam from a boiler enters the drum while it rotates, so every grain meets the steam. When the rice is ready, the drum tilts to discharge it for drying and grinding.
A boiler is needed, and we make a Baby Boiler to go with this machine. It follows the Rice Washing machine, and the cooked rice then goes to a dryer or roaster and on to the pulveriser. Rice powder units making steamed variants, and large catering operations, use it. Sizes run from 15KG to 600KG.
02 / Construction & use
Features
- Horizontal stainless drum with a hinged lid takes the washed rice.
- Drum turns on a motor and gearbox, so the grain tumbles through the steam.
- Steam from a boiler is let into the drum while it rotates.
- Tilting stand lets the cooked rice be tipped out for drying.
- Sizes from 15KG to 600KG cover small steamed-flour lines up to larger units.
Used to make
- Rice for steamed puttu podi
- Steamed rice flour for idiyappam and pathiri
- Grains steamed ahead of drying and milling
- Pulses softened with steam before further processing
03 / Choosing
- Rice Washing
Washing and steaming are consecutive steps, not a choice. The Rice Washing machine cleans the raw grain first. This machine then cooks it, and only lines making steamed powders need it.
- Steam Roaster
Both use boiler steam, but differently. The Steam Roaster heats dry powder through a jacket without touching it. Rice Steaming puts live steam directly onto the grain inside a rotating drum.
04 / Questions
What steam source does the Rice Steaming machine need?
A boiler. We make a Baby Boiler that is fitted alongside this machine. Boiler size depends on the batch you steam, so tell us your daily rice quantity and we will match the boiler to it.
Why steam rice before grinding it into powder?
Cooked rice makes a pre-cooked powder that is quicker to prepare at home and more consistent from lot to lot. Steaming the grain in a rotating drum means the whole batch is treated the same way.
How does the Rice Steaming drum empty the cooked rice?
The drum sits on a tilting stand, so it is tipped to pour the cooked rice out for drying, instead of the rice being dug out by hand. A motor and gearbox at one end turn it while the steam is on.
