Rotating drum roaster for coffee beans, ragi, wheat and other grains and pulses, tumbling each batch for an even roast.

Capacity Range
5KG - 100KG
Power Requirements
440V Three Phase AC

01 / Overview

Coffee, ragi and peanuts all need turning as they roast, or the beans on the bottom scorch while the top stays raw. The Drum Roaster (Coffee & Grains) tumbles the load in a rotating drum so each bean takes the heat in turn.

Coffee is the less forgiving of the two jobs. It roasts hotter than spices, and the roast must be stopped soon after discharge, so the beans are best cooled on a tray straight from the drum. Ragi and wheat are far more tolerant of timing.

Small coffee roasters and estates use it for beans, and health-mix and ragi-malt makers for grains. It comes before the grinder in a coffee powder or flour line, and before the blender for health mixes. Sizes run from 5KG to 100KG, the same as the chilli drum roaster.

02 / Construction & use

Features

  • Rotating drum turns beans and grain continuously over the heat for an even roast.
  • Small-batch capacity suits specialty coffee lots and trial runs of grain mixes.
  • One machine covers both coffee and cereals, so a small business needs a single roaster.
  • Motor drive keeps the drum turning at a steady pace while the batch roasts.
  • Open feed and discharge let beans and grain be loaded and emptied between roasts.

Used to make

  • Wayanad robusta and arabica coffee beans
  • Ragi, wheat, barley and maize for health mixes
  • Pulses and gram roasted before grinding
  • Peanuts roasted for snacks
  • Cocoa beans in small lots

03 / Choosing

  • Drum Roaster (Chilly)

Both drum roasters share the same range and form. Use this one for coffee and grains, which roast hotter, and the chilli roaster for dry red chilli, which scorches easily.

04 / Questions

How should roasted coffee be cooled after the Drum Roaster?

Spread the beans on a cooling tray straight after discharge and stir or fan them, because coffee keeps roasting from its own heat. Cooling quickly stops the roast at the level you chose and stops the oils darkening further.

Can the same Drum Roaster roast both coffee and ragi?

Yes, the drum roasts coffee and grains. Roast them in separate batches and clean the drum between products so oils and flavours do not carry over. Tell us what you roast and we will advise on the setting for each.

What size of coffee lot suits the Drum Roaster?

Batches of 5KG to 100KG suit a small estate roasting its own crop, a roastery selling by the bag or a health-mix maker working up a ragi recipe. Roast to the colour you want, then cool the lot at once.
